Wes Gem Plastic Ring Guards are convenient and economical to use for ring resizing
 
They act as an inexpensive and temporary plastic ring guard to use on rings that will soon be permanently sized. 
The plastic material prevents your ring from getting scratched.

Each ring guard is stamped with a reference number which indicates the mm size (width of band)
 and the amount it will size down to (Low, Medium, or High),

A inexpensive plastic ring guard is a great option to use on rings that will soon be permanently sized. For a ring that is too large to wear, a plastic ring guard can easily be snapped onto the band for an immediate fix. They act as a temporary solution to ring resizing. The plastic material will prevent from any scratches or harm being being done to a metal band. Another advantage of using a plastic ring sizer over a metal one is avoiding the possible irritation that can sometimes be caused by base metal versions of ring sizers. Those with sensitive skin can use a plastic ring guard to avoid a possible allergic reaction.

 

Tools Needed

 

Step 1

You must first measure your ring so you know which size plastic ring guard you need to fit your ring. Take your ring and hold it in your hand so that the bottom of the band or the portion of the band that usually sits on the inside of your finger is facing out. Grab your digital gauge in your free hand and open the jaws wide enough to fit on either side of the outside of the band and then close the jaws around your ring band and record the millimeter measurement of the band.

Since there are 3 available thicknesses for the plastic ring guards, each one will size the ring a different amount. stamped reference number that represents its mm width and the amount it will size your ring down. For example a “5L” stamping on the ring guard stands for it being a 3.5 mm wide in the low size, allowing to fit onto a 3.5 mm wide band and size down around 1 finger size. These plastic ring guards are also available to work on double rings that have been soldered together or that are worn together as a set. Review available sizes to find the right fit for your ring sizing needs.

Low: Sizes down about 1 finger size

Medium: Sizes down about 2 ½ finger sizes.

High: Sizes down about 4 finger sizes.

 


Step 2

Once you have your plastic ring guard in hand you can install it into your ring.

 Holding your ring upside down, place the ring guard inside the band with the smooth side facing up toward the top of the ring.

If the ring guard does not fit inside the diameter of your ring, you can make it smaller by shaving off small amounts of the edge of the guard with a razor blade or exacto knife.

 When doing this, only remove a small amount from the side of the ring guard at a time to ensure it won’t be too small when you are done.

 







Step 3

Turn the ring and ring guard on its side so you can grip the ring guard in one hand and the top of the ring in your other. Gently pull the ring and the ring guard in opposite directions so that the band will fit into place in the ring guard.

If the ring guard is being stubborn, you can wiggle the ring a little until it slips into place. Then slide the ring guard around the inside of the band until it is in the correct position for you.

 






 

Step 4

Once you have positioned the plastic ring guard, you’ll need to try your ring on.

If your ring still doesn’t fit – it may be too big still or too small, you can remove the ring guard and try on a different version plastic guard and check the fit again.

 

 

 

Finished!

Once your ring fits again, you can continue wearing it without fear.
